Zaheer Abbas blames Shahid Afridi for poor show in Twenty20s
Former Pakistan batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 and his team for dismal performance in Twenty20 matches in New Zealand.
Pakistan lost the opening two Twenty20 games against New Zealand giving the hosts a series win in the shortest version of the game. Before the matches against New Zealand, Pakistan also lost their practice match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766.
Zaheer is disappointed with the way Afridi has led the team. According to Abbas, there was no game plan and the team looked absolutely clueless in their opening matches. Zaheer also criticised the batsmen who failed to perform.
Talking about Afridi, Zaheer said, “The way Afridi is playing is grotesque. I cannot understand what he wants to do in the match. A captain of the team has huge impact on the overall morale of the team and the way he has been playing in T20s is absurd. Cricket
is much more than just hitting the ball.”
Zaheer said that Afridi should have played sensibly after deciding to bat at the top of the order. Before the series, Afridi decided to open the innings as the regular opener for the team Kamran Akmal was unavailable for selection.
Zaheer said, “A player should have the temperament to stay on the crease and not go for every ball like an angry bull.” He further stated that the openers must stay at the crease for at least ten overs.
Zaheer said that he was confident about http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s before the series started but the team disappointed him and the fans worldwide.
Commenting on the wickets in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, Zaheer said that the wicket in the first match was not as batting friendly as some of the Pakistani players would have liked but the pitch in Hamilton was similar to any pitch in Pakistan.
Zaheer said, “They should have performed well. However, they all played miserably except for opener Mohammad Hafeez.”
There is still one match remaining in the series and Pakistan would look to win it to restore some pride and take some momentum in the Tests and One Dayers.
