Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas has justified the warning issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to the Pakistan Cricket Board to fix its management and set up its own anti-corruption code.
The former Pakistan Test captain said that the deadline issued by the ICC was a rational move as it was the poor performance of the PCB that forced the supreme governing body of cricket to take such a strict stance since there was no other way around the
matter.
Last week, the International Cricket Council, during its meeting in Dubai had warned the PCB to clear itself from the dirt of corruption and other unprofessional conducts giving the board a 30-day deadline.
The ICC statement read, “The PCB must act and be seen to be acting to uphold the zero-tolerance attitude to corruption in sport. In this regard, the PCB is required to conduct a thorough review of player integrity issues across all authorized cricket in
Pakistan and report back to the Pakistan Task Team within 30 days.”
Pakistan Cricket Board had recently been affianced in a series of controversies that have severely dented not only the country’s name but the spirit of the game internationally. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 and his regime, despite receiving scathing criticism, did not try
its absolute best to resolve the issue at its end and the ICC had to interfere into the matter.
The stylish batsman, while commenting on the harsh but laudable decision of the ICC, said that the decision was fitting in the current circumstances. It’s the Pakistan Cricket Board who has brought on the rage of the apex body by forcing it to take such
decisions. Abbas further added that the ICC might not have issued such a harsh decision if the PCB had taken action against disciplinary and corruption issues.
The Asian Bradman, backing the stance of the International Cricket Council, condemned PCB chief Ijaz Butt’s judgement that the ICC does not want Pakistan to prosper in the game.
Zaheer said, “The fact is we make mistakes they give us warnings but we still do not improve ourselves by following the criteria set by the apex body which is necessary to be abided in all circumstances adding that PCB’s own negligence has cost it this decision
since it didn’t left any other choice for the ICC”.
The cricketing great of Pakistan has put the whole responsibility of the entire crisis embroiling Pakistan cricket these days on the shoulders of Ijaz Butt and his regime. According to Abbas, PCB is an organization being run in the most inept manner by officials
who do not know the ins and outs of the game. Abbas has also called it an embarrassment for the board that the mishandling of the recent spot-fixing scandal has forced the regulatory body to take such a stern stance as the board did not handle the issue appropriately.
Earlier, Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup winning captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Khan, had called the warning issued by the ICC “shameful” for the country.
“The ICC move to warn us and put us on notice is a shameful day for every Pakistani. It is a shame for Pakistan cricket and the reason is we don’t have any cricket institution in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755,” opined Imran.
Zaheer Abbas, while showing his zest for the game also opined that he wants to serve Pakistan cricket and is always available to play his role for the betterment of the sport.
