Former Pakistan Test player Zaheer Abbas is likely to become the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
According to a source close to the former batsman, “He has been going around telling his close friends and supporters that he is prepared for the position and in some instances he has even been inquiring about the pay package and responsibilities of the
COO in the PCB.”
However, Zaheer said it was too early to talk about his role with the PCB. The legendary cricketer stated, “It is premature to talk about these things but why not I do want to serve Pakistan in some way and I have done it in the past.”
The 64-year-old was eager to become a part of Pakistan cricket and offered his services for taking over as the head coach of the national team after the resignation of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193.
The latter had done a tremendous job with the team, but decided to step down from coaching citing some personal and health reasons.
Waqar’s last assignment with the team was the tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 during which was a success, as the team won every game in all three formats.
Since then many names had come up for the coaching job, but the final decision is yet to be made. However, the PCB clarified that Zaheer was not being considered for the role, but was amongst the panel to choose the new coach.
After Waqar’s departure, another vacancy was left in the board. This time it was the chairman of the board, as Ijaz Butt’s tenure came to an end in the opening week of October.
Once again, Zaheer’s name was amongst the probable to fill in the vacant spot. However, the former skipper of Pakistan did not find a place in the board once again and a top banker in the country Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 was declared as a replacement for Butt.
Zaka will however need clearance from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as there is a petition filed against him for misuse of power.
On the other hand, Zaheer will finally be satisfied if he manages to find some role in the PCB.
