Zaheer Abbas suggests non-foreign coach to replace Waqar Younis – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistan batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193.
Following medical problems, Waqar decided to quit the post after the ongoing tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045. After the clash against the Rhodesians, there are some crucial competitions waiting for the Green Shirts. Therefore,
Cricket’s governing body in Pakistan is not ready to waste any time, as PCB has formulated a three-member committee to start the hunt for a new coach.
Whilst there are many possible names for the position flying in the air, Zaheer wants PCB to hand over the reins to a Pakistani. Referring to Waqar’s excellent stint in which the Men in Green reached the semi-final
clash of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, the former cricketer stated that the next mentor should take his legacy forward.
"My preference is for the next coach of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket team to be Pakistani. The team has made strides under Waqar's leadership and we need to build on this. Although not entirely against a foreign coach,
I think a non-Asian coach would be worried about the situation in Pakistan, and this may affect the time he can spend in the country and how well he can perform the job," said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abbas-c41488 who earlier expressed his desire to coach national side.
Waqar’s sudden decision to leave the hot seat also surprised Abbas but he refrained from commenting on the possible controversy behind his exit. He, meanwhile, asked team management to move ahead, saying that since
it is an extremely important phase in Pakistan cricket, the administration should assign the job to a non-controversial, mature and an experienced fellow who has played a lot of cricket at the highest level of the game.
"I'd prefer if the next coach was given a 3-year contract. That way he knows that he has some security in the role and some time to mould the team,” added the former run-machine who has shouldered the responsibilities
of a team-manager in the past.
