http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Abbas-c98435 writes off Pakistan in ICC World Cup 2011
The “Asian Bradman” and former Pakistan captain, Zaheer Abbas, is not convinced that Pakistan has any chance in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2011.
The Pakistani legend has expressed disappointment on the recent performances of Pakistan cricket team in One Day International (ODI) cricket and all the controversies surrounding Pakistan cricket has made him write off Pakistan’s team for the mega event.
Zaheer feels that the spot-fixing controversy has broken the back of Pakistani cricket as Pakistan lost three of its major players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.
He said that, “being a Pakistani, I want my team to win the world cup but in reality you can’t really expect that from this team especially in these crisis”.
Another crisis that has been developed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) itself is the delay in the announcement of the captain for the World Cup.
Previously, the “Asian Bradman” had been demanding PCB to remove Afridi from captaincy as he is not a responsible player himself and although Zaheer is not a big fan of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, he feels that Afridi should be retained as the captain because the World
Cup is just a few days ahead.
“PCB already has delayed the announcement of captain for the world cup and made it controversial. It’s too late now to change the captain and PCB should persist with Afridi as a skipper for the world cup”, Zaheer added.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s limited overs performance in 2010 has been quite pathetic as it failed to win a single ODI series and a constant change of leadership has not helped either. Pakistan played 18 One Day Internationals in 2010 and lost 13 out them and ended up as
winners in only 5 ODIs.
2010 would be remembered as one of the darkest years in Pakistan cricket as it brought a lot of controversies with itself. It all started on the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where Pakistan’s team was whitewashed in the ODI series and as a result PCB banned a number
of players.
However, the bans were lifted later on. The situation was made worse on the tour of England where the spot-fixing controversy struck Pakistani cricket and since then it has been an uphill battle for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Green-c60723 Shirts.
