Discarded Indian fast bowler, Zaheer Khan, is keen to work hard on his physical fitness and bowling form to regain his place in the national team. The left-arm fast bowler, having failed to live up to the expectations
in the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 at home, was dropped from the Indian team last year.
While playing a domestic match in December, Zaheer injured his calf and remained out of competitive cricket before representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the later stages of the sixth edition of
the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The left-armer is fit once again but understands that he needs to work extremely hard to regain the trust of the national selectors. RCB have failed to qualify for the Playoffs of the current IPL season and Zaheer
plans to utilise the free time to enhance his physical fitness.
"I'm definitely feeling much better but I know I've still got a long way to go," Zaheer said while talking to the IPL website. "Post IPL I have to put in some serious work into my fitness and form to reclaim
my place in the Indian team."
The 34-year-old cricketer made his international debut in 2000 during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the modern era, having claimed
almost 600 wickets at the highest stage of the game.
The cricketer from Shrirampur further added that he wanted to take his time before returning to professional cricket because a hasty decision could aggravate the injury.
"I was itching to get back on the field but I always take my time to come back whenever I am injured. This time too, I could have played a couple of matches earlier but it's always good to be a game late than
coming back too early. That was the thinking between the trainer, physio and me," Zaheer added.
The Indian selectors have opted for the younger lot of fast bowlers for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and it would be difficult for Zaheer to come back to the international circuit if the likes of Bhuvneshwar
Kumar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umesh-Yadav-c94625 deliver the goods in such an important event.
