Zaheer feels fit and ready for the long Indian season ahead - Cricket News Update
Indian veteran bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379, said that he is feeling a lot better after overcoming his fitness issues, and is raring to play an important part in the upcoming long season for the Men in Blue.
The Indian spearhead is currently in Sri Lanka, playing a five-match One Day International (ODI) series. The Asian Giants are scheduled to play one of their busiest cricketing calendar years, starting from July 2012 to March 2013.
The season is already underway with the Lankan series, after which the team will then fly back to contest a home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 Championship in September.
The Men in Blue will then host England for a 4-Test match series before another (possible) short series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, which will eventually lead to their final home series against the Australians.
Fitness permitting, the 33-year-old will play a central part in the Indian ODI and Test squads and will be leading their bowling attack from the front.
“It’s important that I’m bowling fit and stay in touch with the game. As you train in the gym and for your fitness, it is equally important to train with your skills and keep bowling overs,” said Zaheer.
Zaheer was left sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury in July last year during the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and underwent a surgical treatment on his ankle which forced him to miss the remaining tour.
Team India suffered heavily due to the absence of their star bowler and consequently had to relinquish their no.1 Test ranking after being routed 4-0. They then went onto lose the ODI series (3-0).
Zaheer is upbeat and feels that the ongoing series against the Islanders would help him get into the groove ahead of the all-important home Test series against England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, hoping to avenge the earlier whitewashes.
“For me, it’s worked well when I’m bowling more and more overs. Hence, with ten Test matches coming at home, this (ODIs in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758) series becomes all the more important,” said the Indian spearhead.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 will hope that their premier bowler, who has taken 288 wickets from 83 Tests, will remain fit in the midst of an inexperience bowling attack.
