Zaka Ashraf dreams about an Indo-Pak cricket league – Cricket News Update
Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB), hopes that India and Pakistan will hold a joint T20 league in future, which he feels can turn out be one of the biggest tournaments of the world.
Over the last five years, franchise cricket has become an important facet of the game, with a number of other countries, following India’s footsteps, organizing their own leagues, inviting players from all across the globe.
The PCB is also planning the first edition of its league in March 2013, straight after Pakistan’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. If some of the star-players take part in the event, it will be a massive success for Pakistan, with no international teams visiting the country since the terror-attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in March, 2009.
Ashraf wants to take things forward gradually and dreams about an Indo-Pak cricket league in the coming years, which will add spice to the game.
"I have a futuristic approach and I see a joint India-Pakistan twenty20 league. If the two leagues are combined, it would be the biggest league in the world. Imagine what that league would do," said the Chairman PCB while talking to Mail Today in an exclusive interview.
The Green Shirts are scheduled to visit India in December for a limited-over series, which will be the first between the neighbouring countries since 2007-08. Ashraf believes that the revival of cricketing ties between the two countries will help develop better relations with each other.
"I am talking about future. This is my far sightedness. First, the bilateral series should be revised, which is being done, and then we can have a joint India-Pakistan twenty20 league," he mentioned.
Indian Premier League (IPL) is already one of the most successful tournaments of the game, which is followed all around the world, with the globe’s best players taking part in the event along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s domestic cricketers. However, the Chairman PCB thinks that his Indian counterparts will need to continue to make changes in the competition in order to avoid being monotonous and a joint venture with Pakistan will not be a bad idea.
Ashraf expressed, "All businesses need new products. IPL also needs new products [to continue to flourish]. And there would be no problem in scheduling a joint league.”
