Zaksa sweeps past CAI in a Pool C match of 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE of Poland and CAI TERUEL of Spain contested with each other recently in Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Poland where some of the pool play matches of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League- Men are being held.
The two teams found themselves competing in a Pool C match of the tournament that was to determine the team that would head off to the Playoffs 12 of the championship. After both the sides competed with each other, the home team of Zaksa was able to earn
a place in the next round of the tournament by making a clean sweep over the guest squad. The final set scores that stood in favour of Zaksa were as follows: 25-14, 26-24 and 25-15.
The coach of the losing team, Oscar Novillo, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference conducted after the match reached its end, “My congratulations to Zaksa, we could not find a way to stop them tonight. After losing the second set
we were no longer capable of coming back into the game.”
On the other hand, the head coach of the winning team, Stelmach, shared his happiness by making the following statement about the outcome of the match, “We are happy to qualify for the next stage of the competition as our minimum goal is achieved.”
The opening set of the match saw Zaksa take the lead with the coming of the first technical time out at 8-5 and also extend their advantage to 13-7. Once they had the lead, the home team did not look back and sped on ahead with the CAI TERUEL trailing far
behind until the end of the frame at 25-14.
The second set of the match saw the Spanish side step up their game and challenge the Polish significantly. As a result, the score showed a tie at 8-8. As the second technical time out came, the Spanish had a thin lead at 16-15.
However, the Polish did not give up the chase and grabbed themselves another set at 26-24.
The momentum generated by winning the first two sets of the game got the Zaksa going in the third set too in which they smothered the guests at 25-15.
