Zamora comes through initial surgery
Fulham striker Bobby Zamora has had successful surgery following a leg break in the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Zamora broke his leg when he fell at an awkward angle after a challenge from Karl Henry. This news will be a lift to everyone at Craven Cottage as Zamora is one of the most important players at the club.
A statement read: "This morning, Bobby Zamora underwent an operation on the injury sustained in Saturday's match against Wolverhampton Wanderers."
It's very important that Fulham now gets every single decision in Zamora's rehabilitation exactly right. The club will have to cope with the absence of a key player but it is extremely positive that the initial surgery did not reveal any further complications.
A lift to the club
It is never a nice thing when a player at any club breaks a leg. Zamora is the leading figure in Fulham's front line and if the surgery had not gone as planned then it could have possibly meant that the striker would be out for longer.
The operation also allowed surgeons to detect and correct ligament damage around the fibula. The sooner that the bone break and the ligament damage can be stabilised, the quicker muscle can heal and the player can work towards recovery.
Fulham has said that they hope the striker will be fit and ready to play again at some point during the January transfer window. However, the ligament damage that was discovered by surgeons will have to be treated slightly differently from the broken bone, which means the player could be out for longer.
The statement added: "The operation was viewed as successful by the surgeon and the fracture to the fibula was repaired, ligament damage was also discovered and repaired during the operation."
Betting advice
There would have been a lot of people that bet on Zamora being the top scoring English player in the Premier League this year. Cut losses by backing his replacement in the Fulham side to do well. There will be a striker coming in that will have a chance he wouldn't have been expecting.
