Surrey were in a very good position against Glamorgan in a match of the County Championship Division Two, at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. The visitors ended day-one of the four-day match at 286 for the loss of just four wickets. The highlight
of the innings was a terrific ton from seasoned South African campaigner Zander de Bruyn.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rory-Hamilton-Brown-c2366 didn’t hesitate for a second to bat first, after winning the toss. The conditions were excellent for batting, as the wicket was pretty much dry and had no pace in it. There was some swing in the air with the new ball,
but the pitch became completely flat after the first hour’s play.
The start to the Surrey innings was a steady one, as openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Wilson-c1474 and Michael Brown played risk-free cricket. They made sure that the ball loses its shine and stops swinging in the air, as they played defensive cricket.
However, both openers were dismissed after doing all the hard work. They got out after scoring 21 and 23 respectively and the visitors were in a spot of bother with two wickets down for 63 runs.
Surrey’s first-drop de Bruyn was joined by wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Davies-c2542 at the crease and the pair rescued their team from trouble. They constructed 82 runs for the third wicket, guiding their team’s total to 145. The keeper batsman was unfortunate
to be run-out after playing a promising innings of 45 runs. He looked good in the middle, but was disappointed in the manner he was dismissed.
Trouble continued for the visitors, as they lost their captain early. The 23-year-old batsman struggled in the middle and was unable to time the ball. He faced 37 balls for his two runs and was sent back to the pavilion after that.
Middle-order batsman Tom Maynard walked out in the middle with his team struggling at 164 for four. He batted sensibly along with the South African player, leading their team to a very strong position. The pair put together an unbeaten 122 runs for the fifth
wicket, before the day was called off by the umpires.
At close of the first day’s play, de Bruyn was batting on 109 off 219 balls with the help of 16 fours and two towering sixes. He got good support from Maynard, who was not-out on 60 from 107 balls, hitting six fours and one six. The pair will look to extend
their partnership on day-two of the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Cosker-c1350 was the only bowler, who caused a few problems for the batsmen. He finished the day with two wickets and will look to get a few early scalps on day-two.
