Zara Phillips to stay in Olympic Village – London 2012 Olympic Games
Zara Phillips, the granddaughter of the Queen of England and a member of the Team GB has recently announced that she will be staying in the Olympic Village along with her teammates during the time of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Phillips has earned herself
a place in the Olympics by qualifying in the equestrian eventing team of the Games.
Other than being royalty, the 31 year old Phillips holds the honour of being a former world champion.
Phillips expressed her views at a press conference in the following words, “It will be great to be part of the Olympics and get the atmosphere and the buzz of being a part of it. In the past, the equestrian has been based quite far out and this time they
have made a big effort to have it as part of the Olympics and really nearby to the village, so it will be great to have the atmosphere and benefit from that.”
During the press conference, Phillips remained brief about answering any question that might relate her with royalty and was quick to move on to another subject. Phillips stance seems determined not to get any extra publicity based on the fact that she is
related to royalty as she wants to be treated like any other athlete in the Team GB.
Phillips has had the bad luck of missing out on the previous two Olympics on accounts of injury to her horse named Toytown. However this time around, Phillips was determined to get a chance to compete in the London 2012 Olympics and was able to manage that
after securing the third position in the Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials that took place recently.
Phillips now rides on her horse High Kingdom.
The other athletes that make up the equestrian team of Great Britain include William Fox-Pitt, Georgina French, Kristina Cook and Mary King. Phillips and her counter parts will be missing the opening ceremony of the Games scheduled to take place on July
27 as they are set to perform in their competition on the very next day that is July 28.
