Zarina Diyas eases past Nicha Lertpitaksinchai into main draw – WANLIMA Women’s Open 2011
Kazakh tennis pro Zarina Diyas defeated Nicha Lertpitaksinchai of Thailand 7-5, 6-1 on Monday to book her place in the main draw of 2011 WANLIMA Guangzhou International Women’s Open here in Guangzhou, China.
The number three seed looked in stunning form as she executed her game plan to perfection. Using the hit and volley technique extremely effectively on the hard court, she created all sorts of problems for her opponent. Playing
the big points really well, she handled the pressure absolutely brilliantly to put her in the driving seat in the match.
Losing five games in the opening set, Diyas did take some time to settle down in the match. However, once she started to time the ball well, she was out of reach for the challenger. Dropping only a game in the second set, she completed
her straights victory in great style.
Nicha started the match on a very positive note. Breaking her opponent early in the opening set, she took a handsome 4-2 lead. However from there on, she completely lost the plot as she struggled to hold onto her service games.
Suffering several breaks of serve in the opening set, she surrendered her game score lead to let Diyas take control of the match.
Diyas concentrated on her own game play and she broke the serve for the third time to take a tricky 6-5 lead, serving for the set. Ranked 171th in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Diyas showed no signs of nerves as she
bagged the set with four straight points to take 1-0 set score.
Seeded third at the WTA tournament, Diyas raised her game to a higher level in the following set. Breaking the serve at regular intervals, she raced to an impassable game score lead. She then had no problems holding on to her service
games as she completed a superb victory in a match that lasted for only 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Serving with control, Diyas hit an impressive 70 per cent first serve. She also had formidable defensive skills, which let her saved points at crucial stages of the match.
