Zaru may succeed over race favourite Hurraboru in the Pins & Needles Show Maiden Hurdle at Newcastle
Newcastle will be hosting the Pins & Needles Show Maiden Hurdle today, on 29th
March, 2012. The track labelled as good will cover 2 miles, and the race has reeled in 16 runners to compete for £1,689.
Zaru is stirring some interest as he has the best form for hurdles. Today, he will be competing against Brandon Thomas, Catcher Of Dreams, Harvey’s Hope, Hurraboru, Mr. Mansson, Nahneh, Simhal, Smart Ruler, So Bazaar, Stagecoach Jasper, Theboyfrombrazil,
Encore Un Fois, It’s Me And You, Ivan The Terrible, and Stormont Bridge.
Zaru, trained by James Ewart for owners Humbert and Drew, started his career on 2nd December, 2009.  He stood third in the European Breeders’ Fund “Junior” Standard Open National Hunt Flat race at Ayr, which he entered as a
favourite with the odds of 5 to 2, but he missed the victory by 4 ¾ lengths to Bold Sir Brain.
The son of Laveron, out of Zianini, started this season on 13th January, 2012, where he finished sixth in a line-up of fourteen runners in the Country Refreshments Maiden Hurdle at Musselburgh.

He competed with the odds of 25 to 1, and was teamed with Brian Hughes. Under his guidance, the six-year-old tracked the leaders but lost pace. Today he will be paired with Hughes again, with odds of 7 to 2 the gelding may excel under his command.
Hurraboru will be racing as a favourite in this race with the odds of 15 to 8. The five-year-old gelding started his career on 31st December, 2011. He raced as favourite and landed an impressive victory in the Digibet.com Maiden
Open National Hunt Flat Race at Uttoxeter, where he defeated, Rossoneri, by 4 lengths.
The son of Brian Boru, out of Fastlass, secured a placed position in his seasonal debut. He stood third, as he was 19 large lengths short of a finish as a runner-up.
Mounted by jockey John Kington, he started well, but did not threaten the leader at any point of the race in the Best Odds At Betvictor.com Standard NH Flat Race (Conditional/Amateur Riders) at Ayr on 30th January, 2012.
Owned by the Deva Racing Brian Boru Partnership, he is trained by Donald McCain. On 2nd March, 2012, he competed in the 32redpoker.com Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Doncaster.

This time paired with Henry Brooke, he stood in the same place, but missed the second place finish by a much narrower margin of 1 length.

Hurraboru may be the race favourite, but Zaru’s history with hurdles puts him in a good place. Zaru may triumph in this race, leaving Hurraboru to finish second.
