Zayed University to host Charity Polo Cup for Pakistani flood victims
In a bid to collect funds for the flood victims in Pakistan, Zayed University has organised a Four-Nation Polo Cup at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, United Arab Emirates. Four best teams including United Kingdom (UK), India, Pakistan and the host UAE are
partaking in the three-day contest.
Zayed University in coordination with Imran Khan Foundation and Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club hosted the Four-Nation Polo Cup scheduled to be held from April 6-8 to help the people of Pakistan in such testing times. Minister of Higher Education and Scientific
Research and President of Zayed University, Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan is working hard to make the event successful and raise more funds for the deserving people.
It is vital to mention here that the historic flood in July 2010 claimed more than 2000 precious lives and affected some fourteen million people in Pakistan. Around one-fifth of the total area of the country was flooded, which massively damaged the crops
and properties.
In an inauguration ceremony of the tournament, Vice President of Zayed University, Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Senior Preparation Manager of DPEC, Nicola Green, made the announcements in this regard. The players from all the teams, journalists, members of royal
family and people belonging to different walks of life were present in the ceremony.
Vice President of Zayed University was of the view that the main objective behind this event was to encourage their students to help Pakistani people and prove themselves as a helpful and kind-hearted society. He further stated that they are mulling to organise
this event annually to assist victims of the natural disasters.
He stated, “We plan for this event to be an annual polo tournament that raises financial aid to natural disaster victims around the world.”
He further stated that four teams belonging to India, United Kingdom, Pakistan and the host UAE are featured in charity-based polo tournament.
In the opening game, Pakistani team (Dr A Polo) fell to Ghantoot Polo Team UAE. The other game will be played between Panchari Polo Team from India and Rhino Polo Team from England at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian at the same venue.
Some changes have been made in the Ghantoot Polo Team that clinched the President of the UAE Polo Cup, held a week ago at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club. The foursome of Ghantoot will comprise of Nasser Al Dhari, Nasser Al Shamsi, Matias Colombres and Ahmed
Al Neeimi. The final of the charity polo cup will be played on April 8.
Meanwhile, the students of the Zayed University will also arrange a photography exhibition demoing their work to entertain the players and as well the guests and spectators.
