Zazu to bypass Ladies’ Classic due to a shoulder inflammation according to John Sadler
Ann Moss and Jerome S. Moss’s 3-year-old filly Zazu, will do no damage in the Grade 1, $2million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic at Churchill Downs on 4 November, 2011, due to an inflammation in the filly’s shoulder according to her trainer John Sadler.
Zazu is one of a few Breeders’ Cup contenders who are dropping down on a regular basis, but the daughter of Tapit is going to bypass the Ladies’ Classic after she came out of her work a little off.
She then went through the nuclear scan and it revealed a little inflammation, the timing is lousy for Zazu and her connections because the filly was really setting the world on fire, but Sadler said that prognosis for next year is a hundred percent.
Zazu was going through her normal work ahead of the Breeders’ Cup on 16 October, 2011, at Santa Anita Park where she covered four furlongs in 46 2/5 seconds.
Out of Rhumb Line by Mr. Greeley, Zazu’s 2011 season has been right out of the top drawer, as she never finished worse than third out of seven starts this season with 3 wins, 3 second place finishes and a lone third in between.
Zazu won her first Grade 1 race this season in only her second start, when she bagged the Las Virgenes, defeating the likes of Turbulent Descent and Plum Pretty in the process.
It was a mile long race under jockey Joel Rosario over the Santa Anita Park’s dirt course on 5 February, 2011, as Zazu romped past her opponents to hit the wire in 1 minute and 34.86 seconds.
Her second win of the season was bang in middle of the season at Hollywood Park, where she won the Grade 2 Hollywood Oaks over at 1 1/16 miles on synthetic surface, and she won the race in 1 minute and 43.36 seconds.
Losing to Ultra Blend in her next start in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar, but settled the score in her next start where she defeated Ultra Blend Grade 1 Lady’s Secret also at 1 1/16 miles on 1 October on dirt.
