Zazu to prove a tough opponent in the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Santa Anita
The John Sadler trained 3-year-old filly, Zazu, has always finished on the money this season in her 6 starts, and now she sets her eyes at her biggest challenge to date, the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret at Santa Anita Park on 1 October, 2011.
Owned by Ann Moss and Jerome Moss, Zazu will make her first start since running in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar on 6 August, 2011, where she finished second.
Trainer John Sadler expects another solid performance from the daughter of Tapit, out of Rhumb Line by Mr. Greeley, as she has done all year round.
However, this time it is a different challenge as she faces the six-time stakes' winner, the champion mare, Blind Luck, and the multiple grade 1 winner, Ask The Moon.
The field is filled with star studded fillies, including the likes of California’s top filly, Zazu's Grade 1 Clement Hirsch rival, Ultra Blend, who defeated Zazu to win the 1 1/16 mile test.
Out of the 10 starts, the stretch-running gray filly has gone on to win thrice while finishing as the runner-up five times and once third.
If she is going to compete with the top fillies, she has to convert the runner-up ratio into a winning ratio, as Zazu has lifetime earnings of $532,985.
It is rarely seen that the 3-year-old filly has run a bad race in her entire 2-year racing career, and she looks in good shape, according to trainer John Sadler.
Zazu has run over the Santa Anita Park’s dirt course thrice in her career, and she has done well over there turning in second place finishes in the Grade 3 Santa Ynez and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks, while she won the Grade 1 Las Virgenes at Santa Anita,
over a mile.
The question everyone will be asking is how the track is going to play this time around, but usually there aren’t any complaints about Santa Anita Park’s dirt track for Zazu.
