Zdenek Stybar returns to cyclo-cross but will miss the 2013 World Cup
Zdenek Stybar has not really been able to give enough attention to his first love, the cyclo-cross, since he joined Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step and made road racing his first priority.
However, the cyclist has not completely finished his associations with his favourite discipline of the sport and does return back to cyclo-cross whenever he finds time.
The cyclist has finished the team’s training camp in Mallorca and will return to cross for a very brief period of time where he will fight for the Czech Champion, but will miss the 2013 ‘cross Worlds mainly because of his busy road schedule.
Stybar’s first race will be in Essen on December 22 but the programme will get only busier after the Christmas, with the Zolder World Cup and Loenhout scheduled on December 26 and 28 followed by Bredene on December 29 and Diegem on December 30th,
2012.
The 27-year-old’s New Year celebrations will began on January 1st with an event in Baal while his cross campaign will end at the Czech National Championships on January 12th in his hometown, Stribro.
He started the 2012 season with a first place finish at the Czech Republic National Championships, Cyclo-cross, Elite event and followed his momentum with a stage 3 victory at the Tour de Pologne 2012.
Zdenek rode brilliantly during the Four Days of Dunkirk and managed to bag a stage win at the race along with a second overall finish at the event.
"It's in my nature to take these events very seriously. It won't be easy because I will have to measure up against the best specialists in the world but I'm going to try to do my best for me and my fans, to whom I promise to give it my all in hopes of obtaining
worthy results," said Stybar.
"I'm convinced that re-embracing the world of cyclo-cross and its supporters, if only for a few races, will be magical”.
Normally, considering my current UCI ranking in cyclo-cross, I should manage to stay on the front lines for the starts, and this is without a doubt an advantage".
After completing his cyclo-cross campaign, Stybar will join the Belgian outfit, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step to continue his road ambitions for the 2013 season.
