Zdeno Chara's decision to pick Montreal Canadiens’ goalie Carey Price surprising -NHL
The 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game roster is all set and the teams have been selected by the two captains, Ottawa Senators’ Daniel Alfredsson and Boston Bruins’ Zdeno Chara.
Carey Price, the Montreal Canadiens’ star goalie, was not the only one surprised when Zdeno Chara of Boston announced his name to select him for being part of his team.
First of all, Price not expecting to be picked at all seeing the huge competition around him like Los Angeles’ Jonathan Quick, Jimmy Howard, Tim Thomas and other players who are looked as to be bigger than him.
Second, being selected by the Boston captain was even more of a surprise looking at the extreme rivalry the two teams have between each other, which even led up to police involvement after Chara himself severely injured a Montreal player last season before
the playoffs.
"I didn't know I was picked!" Price said. "I think Hartsy (Scott Hartnell) tapped me on the leg and said, 'That's you.' So I didn't even know, and when I got out there I didn't even see the big Zdeno standing there, all 6-foot-10 of him".
The moment which stirred further controversy is when Price, after being called out, did not go towards Chara for the ceremonial handshake before taking his place on the roster seat but went directly in front of him.
"I feel shame. I feel real shame," Price said, looking down at his feet. "I gave him a point after when I walked by and he kind of looked at me funny. I felt bad. He's a big guy, how'd I miss him?"
Price will be playing alongside two more Boston rivals, which include veteran goalie, Tim Thomas, and rookie forward, Tyler Seguin, both of which he considers to be great players.
"They're good guys, actually", Price said.
Seeing a number of players all mixed up will certainly be the reason to watch the 2012 NHL All-Star Game, which is set to take place on Sunday, January 29, 2012.
It will definitely be interesting to see some of the biggest names in the league battle it out in Ottawa as it has become a Canada vs. America battle with Alfredsson on one side and Chara on the other.
