Question:

Zebra Danios or White clouded Mountain Minnows?

I've decided to start a small cold water aquarium. The tank at the moment is about 11 litres (how many fish? Some people said 3 and others said 6!). I want to know which fish people think is best for a cold water aquarium apart from goldfish.

Also, does anybody know if you can keep both danios and minnows together?

  1. both these need about 2 gallons each and need minimum schools of 6

along as the temperature docent drop below 18c it will be fine

  2. 10 gallon would be best for 6-10 fish. You can keep zebra danios and white cloud minnows together. They go along very well. A school of 3 fish is the minimum about of the same you could keep for a schooling fish. 6 is better. The more the better

  3. Neither would be happy in a tank that is only 11 litres.

If you get a larger tank, say about 15 gallons, then yes you could keep both minnows and zebra danios together. However, unless you get an even bigger tank, I would keep only one species. I my opinion Zebra danios are better. Both are similar, but danios are more energetic and interesting to watch.

  4. yes danios and minnows can be kept together but not in a 11 litre tank they will bump noses

  5. 11 litres is too small for anything I'm afraid.

Danios and minnows are very active fish, 11 litres is nowhere near enough swimming space. The minnows need 35-40 litres minimum, the danios 45-50 litres minimum.

11 litres is good for nothing but flowers, or a candy jar.
