Question:

Zebra Loach Harassing Corys, Problem?

I have a single Zebra loach in a fifteen gallon tank, and I just added 3 Panda Corys.

The Zebra loach harasses the corys by chasing them around. I can't tell if he is nipping at the corys or what is going on. After a Cory moves away from the loach, it acts completely normal again.

The corys seems unharmed...I'm just worried that too much harassment will either injure or stress the corys. Thoughts?

By the way, I will move the loach to my ten gallon once the snail problem in the fifteen gallon is taken care of, but there are peppered corys there that are of equal size, if not smaller. I know the loach will do the same to them because I have seen it before.

Do I need to get rid of my loach and find some other way of dealing with the snail problem? (With shrimp in my tank it's not possible to chemically treat the tanks)

  1. lets try to put this easily...i have one that's grown to about 6in. and he harasses my texas cichlid, my green terror, my blue acara, and both of my tilapia buttifokeri...thats about as mean as they are...i have 1 cave he will hide in and if anyone goes near it he attacks...they are more aggressive than people think and they are even aggressive with my cichlids!!!

  2. "I have a single Zebra loach"

That is the problem. Loaches are generally a social fish and if kept on their own you will gets all sorts of problems.

2 options, give it away or get a couple more if you have space in the tank.

Kept in a group they will spend all their time chasing each other and generally leave the other fish alone.
