Zelda and the Windwaker (I know it's an old game!)?

Question

I've played the game before and I'm now replaying, the one thing I've never been able to do (and still can't!) is help the guy on Dragon Roost Island who says he has a job interview but doesn't know how to get up there, is there any way to help him or is he just a random character there for amusement only?

No, hes just a random character unfortunately. I don't think he even gives you an item or anything, but once you solve the dungeon he disappears.

Did you complete the 25 letter sort at the post office on Dragon Roost? Do that, then go outside and make sure that you've pushed the blocks down to make it easier to climb up. After some time passes, you can go back to Dragon Roost and the guy will be working at the post office. He'll ask you to demonstrate the 25 letter sort. Do this, and he'll give you a letter to mail for him. Mail the letter, and you'll later receive a letter with a piece of heart.

I think he's just there as one of those random Zelda clues you get.  He just tells you he needs to get up there as a clue to that's where you need to be aiming for, and that it is possible to get up there but he doesn't know how.
