Former Liverpool midfielder Bolo Zenden assessed that the Reds have been in a state of decline ever since Rafa Benitez was fired from the management post, and backed the Spaniard to make a return to Anfield as a manager.
Benitez was sacked by Liverpool in June 2010, after the former Anfield boss failed to steer the Reds to a Champions League place at the end of 2009/10 season. In total he managed the club in 350 games in all competitions, and guided them to Champions League
glory in 2005. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 also finished as runner-ups to AC Milan in the 2007 Champions League under Benitez.
Following the Spaniard’s ouster, the Reds appointed Roy Hodgson as the new manager at Anfield, who was also axed after being in charge for just four months.
Zenden lashed out at the club’s decision-makers for continuously switching the managers, and felt that Liverpool’s current lamentable position owes much to their verdict against Benitez in 2010.
While talking to reporters, he said: “There seems to have been turmoil there for the last few years ever since Benitez left. The club has not seemed to know which way to go. It has been madness to see Roy Hodgson go after such a short time.”
With the management seat currently lying vacant at Liverpool, Zenden assessed that the Reds dismal show in the league and the failure of their expensive signings to deliver led to Kenny Dalglish’ sacking by the owners. Even though he backed the new comers
to come up good in the next season, he opined that they should have been bought for a more reasonable price.
Currently, Liverpool are in the hunt for a new manager, and the former Chelsea player voiced his support in favour of Benitez for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
He remarked, “Anything is possible - Benitez has done well for the club in the past and okay he left on a bit of a sore note but there are different people in charge now so it would be very different from Mourinho going back to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 with the same people
there.”
He went on to say that the Reds still need to go a long way to count themselves as title contenders, and believed that the next title race will be in between Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
