Zenit KAZAN defeats Euphony ASSE-LENNIK by 3-2
A Pool B match of the CEV Volleyball Champions League-Men match took place recently in Leuven, Belgium.
The venue of the competition was the Sport Oase in Leuven. The number of fans that came to watch the match between Euphony ASSE-LENNIK and Zenit KAZAN being played were 3,500 in all.
The competition between the two sides was tough and long which took five sets to reach its conclusion. After the match had finished, the team that found itself on the winning end was the Russian squad. With their recent win, the Russia has been able to secure
the top position in its pool.
The final set scores that favoured the Russians stood at the following points: 21-25, 25-19, 12-25, 25-22 and 14-16.
Despite the fact that his team lost the match, the player that was able to score the most point in the entire match was Robin Overbeeke who tallied 28 points for Belgium. The other players that contributed were Dirk Westphal as well as Ramma who scored 18
and 13 points respectively. The most active player on the Zenit side was Cheremisin as he was able to put up a total of 15 points for his side.
The first set of the match saw a Russian lead at 8-7 but the home team was able to keep the score close till 12-10.
After that point, it was not a tough job for the Serbians to bag themselves the opening set win at 25-21. The loss of the first set got the Russians to rally themselves together and secure the second frame in which they did not let go of the lead till the
very end of the frame and the home team kept trailing behind all the way till a Russian win at 25-19.
The home team responded by putting on a good show in the third set by taking the lead at 10-3 and keeping it till the end at 25-12 but the Russians again came back in the fourth to secure an impressive win at 25-22 and took the match to a fifth set that
ended in favour of the Russians at 16-14.
