Zenit KAZAN goes into final four of 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
A quarter final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men saw the Zenit KAZAN squad compete with VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN of Germany.
The match between the two sides was held in the German city of Friedrichshafen. The venue was the ZF Arena which was filled with an estimated amount of 3,900 spectators that were largely cheering for the home team.
It did not take long to decide the team that would be making it to the final four of the most competitive club tournaments of Europe as the Zenit KAZAN squad bagged a win by making a clean sweep over the home team.The scoreboard showed the following final
set scores as 25-21, 25-21 and 26-24.
The coach of the Zenit KAZAN squad, Vladimir Alekno, expressed himself at the press conference held after the match in the following words, “I am satisfied with the result. Our goal remains to seize the trophy as we want to take that crown from TRENTINO
Volley.”
On the other hand, the coach of the home team, Stelian Moculescu, shared his views by making the following comments, “I still have to congratulate my team. It is a pity for today but I am satisfied with our campaign in this competition even though I would
have loved to have seen at least one more set.”
The first set of the match started off with Zenit KAZAN taking the lead and sticking with it all the way through. Both the attack as well as the defence of the guests was stronger than that of the home squad. As a result, the opening frame of the game was
bagged by the Zenit KAZAN squad at 25-21.
The second set of the match followed the same pattern as the first one with the home side struggling and the guests taking another win at 25-21. The third set was the most competitive but the home team could not stop the Zenit Kazan squad from winning it
at 26-24.
The player that earned himself the honour of being the best scorer of the match was Maxim Mikhaylov of Zenit KAZAN as he was able to keep pressure on the home team by putting up a total of 19 points.
