In the latest round of Russian Premier League action, Zenit St. Petersburg won 2-1 against FC Rostov at Olimp-2, edging closer to retaining the title.
Zenit defender, Aleksandar Lukovic, is of the view that the Meshki deserved the win against the Selmashi, despite a weaker second half performance.
The Serbian had an excellent game as the former Udinese player managed to get his name on to the score sheet, while adding a stunning assist.
Lukovic revealed that the team win was more important to him and assured the fans of similar performances in the remaining matches of the season.
Speaking on the team performance, he said:
“Well, it's great, but most importantly the fact that we won the game. Especially in the first half, we absolutely deserved the victory and could have scored a couple of goals more. The second half started a little worse, misplaced passes and in general
Rostov controlled the game. But we still managed to finish the way we needed it.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandr-Bukharov-c4555, was initially opting to take the
penalty kick.
"Well, we talked and he agreed. So thanks to him and I must say that I am glad to have scored on my birthday.”
The Serbian stopper went on to reveal the difficulty in playing back-to-back league and UEFA Champions League matches.
Having previously won 3-2 against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186, Zenit drew 2-2 against Shakhtar Donetsk in the third group stage match. Zenit had suffered an opening day defeat against Apoel FC and as things stand, the Bomzhi are at the second spot on the group table.
“The Champions League and the domestic league are both important. We want to claim top spots in both competitions.” Lukovic concluded.
Zenit are currently atop the league table with 57 points and lead the second-place CSKA Moscow by two points. Lukovic urged his teammates to gear up and focus on the upcoming league encounter against Lokomotiv Moscow.
