Second-half goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergei-Semak-c32976 and Domenico Criscito ensured the defending Russian Premier League champions, Zenit St. Petersburg,  to reach the quarter-final of the Russian Cup for the second consecutive year.
Semak opened the scoring on 66th minute while Criscito doubled their advantage with a fantastic chip over the opposition’s goalkeeper late in the game.
With the latest win, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RSC-Anderlecht-c40394 earlier this month.
Criscito, who doubled Zenit’s advantage after Semak had put the visitors in front, has hailed his side’s character, saying that the St. Petersburg club deserved to win the cup tie despite playing without key players.
And while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vladimir-Bystrov-c36328 were the noticeable absentees in the mouthwatering encounter.
Kerzhakov, who scored four goals in last three matches, sustained a minor injury during routine workout while Shirokov and Bystrov picked up knocks while playing their last league tie against Alania Vladikavkaz at the weekend.
“It was a very difficult match, which also took place in difficult conditions because of the wind and the rain. We did not allow Mordovia to create more chances in the game. In general, we played well and deservedly won.”
“Of course, I do not tend to score in this style but I decided to try my luck: I saw that the goalkeeper out of the gate, and tried to chip. I have done it for the first time. Mordovia have decent players. I wish them all the best
for a good season ahead.” The former Genoa player was quoted as saying.
Criscito went on to tell that he has recovered from a facial injury he sustained last month, saying that he is feeling perfectly alright after regularly training with the entire squad. The Italian defender has been wearing a protective
facial mask to avoid an injury to broken jaw.
