Maksim Kanunnikov has urged his side to reclaim the top-spot by winning the upcoming Russian Premier League tie and has commented on Anzhi Makhachkala’s campaign
Zenit St. Petersburg striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maksim-Kanunnikov-c23221, has urged his side to win the
upcoming Russian Premier League tie against Kuban Krasnodar if they want to be successful in their quest to retain the league title this season.
Kanunnikov admitted that the Meshki will find it difficult to win the next league meeting against the Krasnodar-based club as the opposing team are enjoying a decent spell in the league.
The Yellow-Greens will play the match on the back of a 1-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow at home while Zenit defeated Kuban’s arch rivals on the road with a 2-0 score line.
Kanunnikov admitted that Zenit want to win their next match as they failed to record a win against the Cossacks since June, 2011. The St. Petersburg club managed to win the match with a 1-0 score line.
The 21-year-old striker went on to praise Yuri Krasnozhan, who replaced Dan Petrescu this summer. Kanunnikov was of the belief that Kuban signed a decent coach who can help them in claiming a decent spot on the league table at
the end of the season.
“With the advent of Krasnozhan, Kuban have changed for good. In the last match, they showed a very high-quality game and entertaining football. But I think every player in our team will play to their maximum potential despite playing
for their respective national teams at the World Cup qualifiers.”
“I think we have no room for error in the next game and the forthcoming league games. So, we have to win on Saturday.” The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Commenting on Anzhi Makhachkala’s successful start to the league campaign this season, Kanunnikov admitted that the Dagestani club deserves credit for displaying quality football since the start of the Russian championship this
season.
Anzhi will face Spartak Moscow the same day when Zenit host Kuban at home. Kanunnikov revealed that he will be happy if the Makhachkala-based club lose some points against the Spartachi on Saturday.
