Zenit St. Petersburg managed to get their fourth win in the latest Russian Premier League encounter as they defeated Spartak Moscow 5-0 at Petrovsky stadium on Saturday. The Meshki have now reclaimed the top spot on the league
table after the win.
Roman Shirokov was thrilled to see his side win against the Moscow-based club with a heavy margin. Zenit, meanwhile, managed to stop the Red-whites' winning run after winning the much anticipated encounter.
Spartak, on the other hand, have now moved down to the fifth spot on the league table after suffering the heaviest defeat in their history.
The 31-year-old attacking midfielder, who signed for the Russian outfit from FC Khimki in 2007, admitted that the unity between the entire squad on the pitch was the key factor behind their stunning league win on Saturday.
Shirokov, who compiled a superb brace against the Moscow-based club, revealed that he is happy to help the Russian outfit. However, he was quick to credit the entire squad for the latest win.
“When the game is given and the goals are coming, you want to score more and more. We have shown Spartak of their weaknesses after scoring too many goals. The team is gaining form and it is easier to play in such weather than ever
before.” The UEFA Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Shirokov complemented his side, saying that they put a lot of effort in the game despite the absence of star players in the starting line-up against the Spartachi. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandr-Bukharov-c4555 were the
major absentees on Saturday.
The former Saturn Moscow Oblast player went on to admit that Spartak’s style of play is changing after the arrival of Unai Emery at the helm.
The Bomzhi will now play the upcoming league tie against Anzhi Makhachkala on the away turf. Shirokov has urged his team-mates to push the pedal to the metal to maintain their decent league run after defeating the mega-rich Dagestani
club.
