Zenit St. Petersburg’s Luciano Spalletti speaks on team performance ahead of Anzhi Makhachkala clash
Zenit St. Petersburg head coach, Luciano Spalletti is delighted with the team performance in the Russian Cup after the Bomzhi progressed to the next round of the tournament by eliminating FC Khimki. The Russian champions won the game by a slender 3-2 margin.
Luciano Spalletti is satisfied with the physical condition of the squad after returning from the first round break of the Russian Championship and revealed that the squad is in good shape and hungrier than ever for success.

The 52-year-old heaped praise on Anzhi’s ambitious president, Suleyman Kerimov, and the experienced head coach, Gadzhi Gadzhiev, by explaining that the club are in good hands and deserves their place in the league table.
“Anzhi have seriously changed; they have a very experienced coach, a serious president, who came to raise the standards in Russian football. They are working very well together.” Spalletti went on.
The tactician went on to admit that it would be quite difficult for Zenit to retain the league title as compared to previous season because of the threat posed by the current league leaders, CSKA Moscow.
The Army Men have extended their lead to seven points at the table after winning their rescheduled league game against Volga Nizhny Novgorod. However, the Italian coach is unfazed by the challenge and assured the fans that they will fight until the end.
“CSKA are having a good season, but I think we still have the opportunity to fill this gap. Our intentions remain the same: we try to achieve only the best.”
