Zenit St. Petersburg’s Sergei Semak denies comparisons with Anzhi Makhachkala’s Roberto Carlos
Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder, Sergei Semak, is delighted to have progressed to the later stages of the Russian Cup against Volga Ulyanovsk and revealed that he cannot afford to be compared with the World Cup winning legend, Roberto Carlos.
Sergei Semak won the Russian Premier League title four times during his time in the Russian Championship with CSKA Moscow, Rubin Kazan and Zenit. The midfielder joined the Bomzhi last year from the Rubies. Semak earned his most recent title under the leadership
of Italian tactician, Luciano Spalletti.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player has refused to compare himself with the Brazilian legend, Roberto Carlos, suggesting that he still has a long way to go before he even gets close to the Anzhi captain.
Semak has remained tight lipped over the transfer fee and the wages of the Brazilian by suggesting that he does not need to discuss the internal affairs of any club.
The Russian footballer has insisted that the arrival of the star defender has only flourished the Russian league and the fans should thank the Anzhi president, Suleyman Kerimov.
“Kerimov has every right to put the money wherever he wants. In general, the arrival of the star football player in our league - it's wonderful. Thanks to him, the world learned of Makhachkala.” Semak was quoted as saying.
Roberto Carlos has won the UEFA Champions League three times with the La Liga club, Real Madrid. Semak heaped praise on the 38-year-old Brazilian by admitting that any potential comparison with the player of such class is impossible.
