Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder, Sergei Semak, is hoping to play against FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod on June 18, 2011. The Russian international revealed that he eyes playing quality football rather than think of a contract extension with the club.
Semak is desperate to prove his strength on the pitch and revealed that the team is confident and looking in good shape after winning the home game against FK Rostov-Na-Donu.
Semak, whose contract at the club runs out at the end of the next year, revealed that it is up to the manager, Luciano Spalletti, to decide his position on the pitch. The Italian is best known for his highly versatile tactics and effective squad rotations.
Semak was played as a striker in the game against Rostov but that could change in the upcoming game.
The talented midfielder described the upcoming fixtures as decisive. Zenit are just two points adrift of league leaders CSKA Moscow but have played one game extra. Two-day preparations are expected normally between the matches. However, Zenit now have an
extra day to prepare as they played their last game on Tuesday. The player was optimistic that it will help the team in forging out a good result.
Semak refused to talk about the sacking of Volga coach, Omari Tetradze, and explained that Zenit have no right to discuss the oppositions’ internal matters, and that the clubs should focus on their own workings. The midfielder, though, highlighted the rivalry
among the clubs and the threat posed by some of the talented players.
