Experienced Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder, Sergei Semak, has revealed that the Bomzhi need to work hard if they want to retain the Russian Championship. The Russian Premier League is becoming more competitive, the midfielder believes.
Sergei Semak explained that Zenit, CSKA Moscow, Rubin Kazan, Lokomotiv Moscow and Spartak Moscow used to challenge for the trophies in the past, but the trend in the Russian league has now changed.
Clubs like Kuban Krasnodar and Anzhi Makhachkala are currently pushing hard for top five places in order to qualify for European competitions.
Semak admitted that Zenit will find it difficult to close the gap with the army men if the Moscow-based club manage to increase the point difference to seven points by winning against Volga Nizhny Novgorod away from home.
The Russian national has explained that the team believes in their head coach, Luciano Spalletti, who has already provided the Russian club with a league title, the Russian Cup and the Russian Super Cup since his arrival from AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603.
The former Paris Saint-Germain centre half has revealed that Spartak Moscow are a top Russian club with an astonishing history. The club has claimed the mist number of league titles, however, since the arrival of the head coach, Valeri Karpin, Spartak have
lost their way at the top.
“The red-whites are still one of the most popular teams in the country. It will always be a threat to the clubs, now the Spartacus are going through a difficult period but you can never write them off from the title race.” Semak was quoted as saying.
Anzhi Makhachkala have also returned strongly to the Russian First Division after an absence of seven years. The wild division are operating under the new president, Suleyman Kerimov, who has forced the Russian club to hit top gear by providing cash injections.
Anzhi are currently at the fifth spot of the league table, a place below the Rubies only because of an inferior goal difference.
Zenit will be playing against Anzhi in the upcoming league fixture and Semak has urged the team to kick start the second round of the league with a win.
