Zenit St. Petersburg defender, Bruno Alves, has lavished praise on his side after a successful UEFA Europa League campaign this season. The Portuguese stopper admitted that the Russian Premier League club is gaining immense popularity
in Europe.
The St. Petersburg club played in the UEFA Champions League initially. However, they failed to progress from the group stages of the continental tournament after securing a third-spot in their respective group table.
Zenit did not lose hope despite being drawn against English Premier League giants, Liverpool FC, after securing an automatic qualification at Europa League. They managed to reach the quarter finals of the cup competition after
winning against the Reds on an away goal rule (aggregate 3-3).
Zenit managed to win the European under the same manager, Luciano Spalletti, cup five years ago. The Russian outfit defeated Villarreal, Olympic Marseille, Bayern Leverkusen and Bayern Munich on their route to reach the finals
of the cup competition.

of reaching the later stages of the tournament.
The 31-year-old central defender went on to lament Domenico Criscito’s injury.
“A trauma is always unpleasant, but it does not mean that we should lose heart. I think he is a special player for us especially because he added stability to team defence. I wish him speedy recovery on part of every member of

If speculations are to be believed, Criscito damaged his knee ligaments. It has been reported that the former Genoa player will be out for several months.
