Zenit St. Petersburg will not consider tomorrow's Russian Premier League match as an opportunity to take revenge for the Super Bowl, says Roman Sharonov
Zenit St. Petersburg are likely to start the upcoming Russian Premier League match against Rubin Kazan at Petrovsky stadium without the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandr-Anyukov-c4549, Danny Miguel
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergei-Semak-c32976.
With Anyukov and Semak yet to recover from their recent injuries and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 still lacking match fitness after recovering from a leg injury that sidelined him for much of the part last season, Kerzhakov’s
return for the upcoming match is on the cards.
The former Dynamo Moscow striker, who was the St. Petersburg club’s top-scorer last term with 23 goals in 32 league appearances, missed the last two matches for his side after sustaining a muscle injury.
However, news in Russian media tells that the 29-year-old goal-scorer is likely to play some part in Saturday’s match after attending a full practice session with the rest of the squad on Thursday.
Rubin’s midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Sharonov-c31644, has insisted that Zenit are a strong team with decent players and it does not matter if they start the match with or without their prolific forward, Kerzhakov.
The former Terek Grozny player went on to admit that though Kerzhakov is an important figure for Zenit, the St. Petersburg club won their latest league match 5-0 against Spartak Moscow without him
last weekend.
“It’s hard to talk about Zenit’s powerful squad as they know better what the team is with Kerzhakov or without him. Of course, Aleksandr now is one of the best strikers in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991, but even if he will
not be on the field on Saturday, it is impossible to say that the game will be easy.” The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Volzhane managed to win 2-0 against the defending champions, the last time these two teams faced each other in a Russian Super Cup match in July.
Sharonov revealed that he is not expecting Zenit to consider tomorrow's match as an opportunity to take revenge for the Super Bowl, as it was a different match in a different competition.
