Victor Pope believes that CSKA Moscow need to change their coach, Leonid Slutsky, if they want to claim Russian Premier League title
Former CSKA Moscow midfielder, Victor Pope, has conceded that Zenit St. Petersburg will find it difficult to retain the Russian Premier League title next season. He has tipped the Russian outfit to sign a host of decent players
this summer.
Media reports in Russia suggest that Zenit are lining up bids for Juventus pair Milos Krasic and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rolando-c31583 Bianchi this summer.
There is little arguing that Zenit have struggled in the offensive department as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maksim-Kanunnikov-c23221 failed to score enough goals during the season.
Luciano Spalletti, the Meshki head coach, had himself stressed on new signing, admitting that that the St. Petersburg club need to replace the dead wood at Petrovsky stadium by introducing young and talented players in almost every
department.
Pope revealed that Zenit need a host of European elite players because the fans are expecting them to reach the later stages of the UEFA Champions League and the Russian Cup this time around.
Zenit managed to reach the pre quarter-finals of the continental tournament before they were knocked out by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SL-Benfica-c40542. The Russian outfit, meanwhile, failed to reach the domestic cup semi-final after suffering a 1-0 defeat against
Dynamo Moscow at their home.
“I think the current squad at Spalletti’s disposal in not good enough to play in all three tournaments. They need to replace the aged players in their squad and try to sign players for the near future.” The Russian Cup winner was
quoted as saying.
Commenting on his former club, CSKA, the former Muscovite boss went on to admit that the Moscow-based club need to sack Leonid Slutsky if they want to achieve anything in near future.
Slutsky’s future is under fresh scrutiny after the 41-year-old Russian manager failed to land 2nd spot in the league table. Kuban Krasnodar’s Dan Petrescu and Rubin Kazan’s Kurban Berdyev are favourites to replace the
former FC Moscow manager at Luzhniki stadium.
