Zero Rate Policy comes back from a sloppy defeat to participate in the Select Stakes at Monmouth Park
Trained by Teresa Pompay for owners William Lawrence and Klaravich Stables, Zero Rate Policy, is looking good for the 6 August, 2011 $75,000 Select Stakes held at Monmouth Park.
With the absence of the Grade 3 Jersey Shore winner Flashpoint, who won the race under Cornelio Velasquez over at a distance of six furlongs, the spot looks more favourable for the sprinter Zero Rate Policy.
The 3-year-old gelding, Zero Rate Policy last time around raced in the Grade 3 Jersey Shore and got drawn near to the rail on a sloppy muddy track.
With unlucky post draws which forced the gelding to break from the innermost post and, Flashpoint making a great break, crossed the wire in the same fashion.
Zero Policy Rate under jockey Carlos Marquez suffered an untimely defeat when the gelding was on a three race winning streak starting from breaking his maiden, the pair finished fourth in the Jersey Shore.
It was a horrible trip for the son of Trippi, as the opened the track right before the race which meant no pre race practice sessions to go with familiarizing with the track.
The break from the rail made it even deader, it was all about speed once the race went underway, and the gelding was not up to his fullest because he was uncomfortable pushed down to the fence.
This time around in the six furlong Select Stakes, Zero Rate Policy drew post number 5 which was bang in the middle. In the previous encounter the gelding burned himself out, but the prospects look brighter in the Select Stakes.
Zero Policy Rate, out of Untitled Song, breezed a quick 34.60 seconds work out to prepare for the 6 August dash.
Prior to the Grade 3 Jersey Shore, Zero Rate Policy dominated in his last two starts, beginning with an Allowance race run at Monmouth Park on 15 May, 2011.
The gelding under his usual ride Carlos Marquez broke nicely from the gates and kept on picking pace as they comfortably covered the distance of six furlongs in a fast 1 minute and 9.98 seconds.
The second win for trainer Teresa Pompay came in another six furlong sprint at the Monmouth Park in the shape of Rumson Stakes for 3 year old males.
Carlos Marquez took the responsibility yet again, and he maneuvered magnificently to claim the prize of yet another dash at Monmouth Park dirt over a familiar distance on 11 June, 2011.
The Select Stakes' cast consists of six 3 year old male sprinters, pre dominantly have gained experience in the shorter distance dash to make it a race for the experienced.
The one to look out other than Zero Rate Policy would be Royal Currier and Chipshot.
