Zhang Anda out of Qualifying Round 1: World Snooker Championship 2011 – Snooker news
Zhang Anda lost the battle against Andrew Paget by a frame score of 10-6 in the opening qualifying round of 2011 World Snooker Championship at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
The Chinese teenage sensation, Zhang Anda, a year ago successfully negotiated four qualifying rounds making a few excellent century breaks to round off a 10-8 win over Ricky Walden and book himself against the seven-time world champion, Stephen Hendry at
the home of snooker.
However, this time he has crashed out in the qualifying round 1 against Wales’ Andrew Paget.
The overall score line between the players was 75-46, 104-25, 78-49, 1-70, 24-71, 0-101, 56-68, 63-49, 75-30, 0-67, 72-7, 77-0, 74-37, 80-12, 29-48, and 63-17.
It was an overall slow game as no reasonable breaks were made except a century break of 101 by Anda in the sixth frame.
Andrew Paget took a flying start as he stormed into a 3-0 lead with a highest break of 59 before Anda bounced back to have his first one before the interval with a dominant break of 52 to come within one frame at 3-1.
After the interval, the Chinese dominated the first three frames straight with a mind-boggling match high 101 in the sixth and went ahead by 4-3. Paget on the same note also clawed back and pocketed the next two in a row with breaks of 40 and 74 but he was
not given any chance in the tenth frame as Anda made a classy 66 to level the things by 5-5.
It was all going neck to neck until the evening session where the Mighty Mouse, Zhang Anda, was not able to put on any show. He only won one frame out six. Andrew Paget took consecutive four frames this time and extended his lead to 9-4. He enjoyed breaks
of 28, 63, 54, and 32 respectively. He was now only one frame away to secure his victory for the next round.
Anda showed signs of life as he managed in winning the cagey 15th with the highest break of 14 but a couple of quick fires 32, 14, and 16, from his opponent in the next one ended his hopes to be in the World Snooker Championship final this year.
The evening session was completely dominated by the Welshman, Andrew Paget, who has now made it to the round 2 of the qualifiers where he will face Belgium’s Iceman, Bjorn Haneveer.
The 28-year-old from Blackwood, Andrew Paget, is not lacking in confidence and believes he can repeat Zhang Anda’s achievement of 2010 by adding his name in the list of players who have competed in snooker’s most prestigious event.
