Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei clinch Mixed Doubles title at the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
China’s ace shuttlers, Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei, bagged the Mixed Doubles title after defeating Indonesia’s Lilyana Natsir and Tantowi Ahmad in the final battle of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, at Jakarta, on Sunday, June 26, 2011.
The World Number One couple of Nan and Yunlei recovered from a one-set deficit to win the match after winning the second and third set. The rubber-set final was a classic fight between the tops seeds of China and Indonesia.
In the opening game, both couples played aggressive badminton from the starting points of the match. Both duos were trying hard to dominate their opponents at the net. The speed of the rallies was fast and the control of both sides was also remarkable.
In the whole set, no side could manage a good lead as the quality of the game was the same. The score reached at the crucial stage of 20-20, where the Indonesian duo worked very well against the Chinese couple, who made mistakes and lost the set by a tight
score of 20-22.
Stung with the loss of the first set, the Chinese duo bounced back in an impressive manner, as they dominated the second game by accelerating their pace at the net. The power-play of the Chinese couple destroyed the defence of the Indonesians, who lost their
focus in the second set. The Chinese shuttlers took advantage from the shaky play of their rivals and clinched the game by a 21-14 margin.
The final set of the match was a superb demonstration of top quality badminton of the Chinese players. They were dominating in the court by leaving no room for the Indonesians to score points.
Lilyana and Tantowi failed to break the impressive flow and coordination of their Chinese opponents. Nan and Yunlei won the third game by a dramatic difference of 21-9. The Chinese duo finished off the rubber-set title-match in 68 minutes with a 20-22, 21-14
and 21-9 score on the board.
