Singapore’s best shuttler Zi Liang Derek Wong delivered brilliantly and stormed into Men’s Singles round-of-16 at the Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge 2012.
In the second round clash, Zi Liang showed his elevated skills and hammered Malaysia’s Teck Zhi Soo on Thursday, March 29, in Vietnam.
The top seed Zi Liang entertained the crowd with his impressive skills and flawless game plan and remained successful in ending the contest in straight sets by taking just 22 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Teck Zhi could not live up to expectations in this second round contest as he was completely unable to match the speed and perfection of his rival and crashed out from the event without creating an impact.
In the opening game, Zi Liang started his campaign in a dominating manner as he played with superb precision and established a comfortable lead on the board.
In the meanwhile, Teck Zhi tried to find a good flow but failed to cope up with the pace of rallies at any stage in the opening half of first game.
Zi Liang was fully focused in the match and got a strong position by taking a sensational lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Zi Liang continued his power play against his Malaysian opponent and did not lose focus. He was playing at his best speed and bagged the opening game with an incredible margin of 21-6.
In the second set, Teck Zhi tried to accelerate his speed in opening rallies but could not take any advantage as his opponent was too strong in the court.
Until the one-minute interval in the second set, Zi Liang was moving far ahead of his lower ranked Indonesian challenger.
After the break, Zi Liang stretched his lead by playing at the same speed. He kept the tempo of rallies fast and did not let his opponent settle down in the court.
Zi Liang did not face any trouble at all from his rival and took the second set with a one-sided margin of 21-10.
The top seed won this Men’s Singles second-round encounter in straight games with an impressive 21-6 and 21-10 score on the board.
