Zico deserts Chad Johnson: receiver’s financial troubles set to aggravate – NFL News
The jobless wide receiver Chad Johnson appears set to further recede into the financial troubles as coconut water brand Zico said they were withdrawing from the endorsement commitment to the receiver as a result of the domestic issues he has recently been
through.
Zico in a statement issued on Wednesday, which confirmed the management's decision, said they had taken the dire step to uphold the company values, which the statement said was essential to the core of the firm’s policy.
The statement reads:
"The Zico brand is about supporting naturally powered athletes. We partnered with Chad Johnson because of our great respect for what he has achieved on the playing field.”
It adds:
"However, in light of recent events involving Mr. Johnson, we have decided to terminate our relationship. The values we espouse, through our employees, our customers and our brand, are central to our mission. We have taken this proactive step to demonstrate
just how important those values are."
The withdrawal will certainly add to the financial hardships of the player given he has already been ousted by Miami Dolphins, while faces court on the charge of domestic violence against his wife, the reality TV celebrity Evelyn Lozada. He has also been
demanded to pay the cost of legal proceedings of his wife’s filing for divorce.
It is only a matter of week that the player has gone from hero to zero – finding himself at the lowest ebb of the life and career – only a few days after his boasts of having found the lost touch in both.
Although he has the optimism about another opportunity in the league, his recent off-field conduct is set to make it happening very difficult indeed. He was married to Lozada only for 41 days and the pair is on the edge of divorce, ruining lives of both.
Chad is accused of head-butting Lozada, which has left a three-inch cut on her forehead, but the player’s later claim that she had hit him left no chance of reconciliation for him.
Away from the domestic worries, he is struggling to salvage his reputation in the league, as while Dolphins had already complained of his profanity with media, the domestic violence has brought another question mark on his character.
