Zigzag Pearl takes fast track to victory at Sunderland
The 450m greyhound racing action was sizzling this morning at the Sunderland Greyhound Stadium in Sunderland. Racing fans were treated to another exciting 12-race card that featured some highly interesting results.
In the first race, an A8 race that was held at 11:03, Zigzag Pearl (4-1) pulled off a close victory by only a head. She bumped second, but led the run in to place first with a time of 28.77. Behind her was Dingo Star, whose 28.78 finish put him in second. Odds makers staked Dingo Star as the 2-1 favourite to win this race. On the track, he led the pack to fourth, but crowded on the run in, costing him the victory.
Sambeth Tom (4-1) was the third-place finisher in this race. He crowded both first and second to finish in 28.94, which was 2 lengths behind second place. Finishing in fourth place was Bluestwinkletoes (14-1), completing the race in 29.00, behind the number three spot by only ¾ lengths.
Fifth place went to Drumena Phil (5-2), who didn’t drum up a win today. He bumped first and finished in 29.01, putting him out of fourth by a head’s length. Drumena Phil’s sibling, Drumena Roller (6-1), finished last with a time of 29.27. He was 3¼ lengths behind fifth place.
Galaxy (3-1) was the star of the A7 race at 11:19. Despite bumping first, he led the run in, and claimed the victory with a great 28.47 finish from trap five despite not being the pre-race favourite. That title was bestowed upon Miss Kit, who carried 5-1 odds into this race. Despite that, she disappointed many by finishing in fourth place.
In the number two position was Molly Vieri (7-2), who crowded the run in to finish with 28.57. This placed her 1¼ lengths out of first-place contention. Glenside Star (10-1) took third place in 28.61, which was only a ½ length behind second place.
Favourite Miss Kit missed out on a win today, finishing the race in fourth place. She crowded both first and second, and ran to a 28.75 finish, which was 1¾ lengths behind Glenside Star.
Monkstown Bob (3-1) checked in with a fifth-place finish in 28.77, placing him a neck behind the favourite. Last place went to Shes A Livewire (8-1), who finished 1½ lengths behind fifth place with 28.89.
Greyhound racing at Sunderland Greyhound Stadium continues on Friday 3 September with a 12-race card that is sure to entertain racing fans. The action gets underway with an HP race at 19:30.
