South Africa A clinched victory over Zimbabwe XI by just one run after a breath taking encounter in the A team Tri-series match, at the Harare Sports Club, on July 2, 2011.
South Africa, after winning the toss, opted to bat first. They started their innings with the skipper JA Rudolph and opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LE-Bosman-c1832.
South Africa got off to a poor start as they lost their first wicket on just eight runs. Bosman was the first batsman to go back to the pavilion as he was clean bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KO-Meth-c1803 after scoring just two runs off nine balls.
RR Rossouw came into bat as a the first-down batsman. After sharing a 32-run partnership with his skipper, he was caught by Chigumbura off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Utseya-c2145. JS Ontong was the next batsman to come into the middle and after scoring just five runs, he went back to the hut as well.
The wicketkeeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HG-Kuhn-c1548, came onto the crease then and built a solid partnership with his captain, Rudolph.
The duo put up 116 runs and reached their half-centuries in the process. They both played a sensational innings and struck the ball all around the ground. They were going along well before Kuhn was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CR-Ervine-c1286 off the bowling of Utseya. He scored 61 runs off 70 balls and smashed two boundaries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 A were 168 for the loss of four wickets, however Rudolph and Kuhn’s partnership put South Africa A in a solid position. 
However, after the addition of 19 more runs, South Africa A lost their skipper Rudolph. He was caught behind by RW Chakabva, off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CB-Mpofu-c1219.
Rudolph fell just two runs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 of his hundred off 125 balls. After the wicket of the skipper, none of the South African A batsmen could capitalize on the stage set by their Skipper and wicketkeeper. Finally South Africa A could only manage 238 for the loss of nine wickets.
Zimbabwe XI, in pursuit of the 239-run target, started their innings and their openers provided their team a reasonable start of 44 runs.
However, amongst the Zimbabwean batsmen, only their keeper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 scored 98, exactly the same as South Africa A’s skipper, Rudolph.
After Taylor’s demise, no other Zimbabwean batsman could make it http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Griffith-c919. Wicketkeeper batsman RW Chakabva did fight well, but fell three runs short of his half century in the end.
South Africa A’s VD Philander took two wickets for his side while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Theron-c1612 contributed with one each.
In the end, the Zimbabweans lost the match by 1 run as they could only muster 237 against South Africa’s asking score of 238.
