In the ongoing tri-national series, hosts Zimbabwe A on Thursday, July 19, registered their second win in the tournament by beating Sri Lanka A by eight wickets, at Harare Sports Club.
Sri Lanka, are now in hot water after losing four matches that they have played so far in the tournament. The series is currently being led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, who stand at the top on the points table, with a lossless record in four games.
In this clash, Zimbabwe, after having won the toss, chose to field first and exhibited their superiority by reducing their opponents on a meagre tally of 81 runs in 26 overs.
Sri Lanka A never seemed heading in the right direction as they kept losing wickets right from the demise of their opener, MDUS Jayasundera(15), who lost his wicket at a time when his side had amassed a tally of 25 runs on the board.
After the fall of the first wicket, none of the batsmen could manage to hold their own and crumbled with SC Serasinghe as the best batsman after bolstering an innings of 17 runs.
This colourless batting performance put Sri Lanka in a difficult position and they now needed a magical bowling performance to pull off a miraculous and unlikely victory.
They made a mark as they grabbed their first wicket with 12 runs on the board, after nabbing the wicket of Zimbabwe opener TMK Mawoyo, who perished on a tally of four.
Then with 19 runs on the board, the Lankans tasted their second wicket on the demise of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sikandar-Raza-Butt-c90274 on a score of three runs.
This was exactly what was required by the Lankans in order to win the match as they needed to maintain this pressure on the hosts.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CR-Ervine-c1286 ruined Sri Lanka’s hopes of coming out victorious from the match as the duo stood tall and steered the side to victory by jabbing knocks of 43 and 21 runs, winning the game in 18.4 over.
