http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 Domestic: Castle Logan Cup - Matabeleland Tuskers v Mountaineers – 1st Day’s Update
On the first day of the four-day match in the Castle Logan Cup, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matabeleland-Tuskers-c815 posted 75 runs at stumps against Mountaineers at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, on Monday, December 12, 2011.
After winning the toss, Mountaineers chose to field first on an overcast morning to make things a bit difficult for Tuskers batsmen.
The Tuskers on the other hand, knew that batting under cloudy conditions would not be an easy task and all they had to do was to keep wickets in hand and wait for the weather to clear.
Openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Terry-Duffin-c2657 gave their side an opening stand of 65 runs as the two batsmen played the Mountaineers bowlers tentatively, to avoid losing a wicket.
Duffin, took charge as he tried to play a quick paced innings in order to put pressure on the fielding side. However, it was evident that the batsmen were not eyeing the ball properly as both of them missed quite a few deliveries while they were on the crease.
Meanwhile, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mountaineers-c818 bowlers were trying their best to break the opening partnership and take the upper hand in the match.
It was finally on the penultimate delivery of the 27th over, when Mountaineers managed to dismiss Duffin, who was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Utseya-c2145, after posting 29 runs off 78 deliveries. His wicket fell just before lunch, which was an obvious blow for the batting side as they wanted to go for lunch without losing a wicket.
After lunch, the batting side could only muster ten more runs before play was interrupted duo to heavy rain.
By this time, Horton had amassed 34 runs, while his batting partner, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gavin-Ewing-c1472, posted just two runs on the board.
The constant rain prevented the resumption of the match, causing just 31.3 over of play on the first day before umpires decided to call it a day.
With 75 runs on the board, and one wicket down, Tuskers are in a commendable position and still have their hold in the game. They need to bat impressively tomorrow otherwise Mountaineers may climb back in the match by grabbing a few quick wickets.
