Mid West Rhinos 253/421 v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mountaineers-c818 313/85 - Match drawn
On Thursday, February 09, 2012 the four-day match between Mountaineers and Mid West Rhinos in the Castle Logan Cup ended in a draw at Mutare Sports Club.
After ending the third day of the match by posting 212 runs on the board for the loss of only one wicket in their second innings, Mid West Rhinos resumed batting on the final day in a bid to hammer an unachievable total against Mountaineers.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sibanda-c2740 and GS Ballance came out to bat from their side as they sought to enhance their overnight tallies of 98 and 55 runs.
Both batsmen exhibited tremendous form as they countered every move by the fielding side. Mountaineers bowling attack seemed impotent against the batsmen as they clobbered the bowlers all around the park without remorse.
With 321 runs on the board, skipper Ballance lost his wicket after stashing 116 runs in his belligerent innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bothwell-Chapungu-c1180 then departed cheaply as he was dismissed after scoring only five runs. At the time of his wicket, the side had amassed 329 runs.
The arrival of Roland Benade, gave Sibanda the much deserved support as he sought another breathtaking partnership against the fielding side.
However, the partnership was short-lived as Sibanda finally lost his wicket in the 99th over after playing a resilient innings of 162 runs. The batsman had his stumps uprooted by pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Donald-Tiripano-c1393.
Rhinos had amassed 369 runs by the time they lost the wicket of Sibanda, but instead of declaring the innings chose to bat further in a bid to pose a serious threat to the opposition.
Later, a 32-run knock by Benade and 30 runs by Simon Mugava helped the side post 421 runs on the board, giving Mountaineers a target of 362 runs to win the match.
Mountaineers with only 31 runs on the board, suffered the loss of their first wicket when opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cunningham-Ncube-c51781, was run out on 15 runs.
However, Rhinos failed to bowl-out their opponents as Mountaineers rallied 85 runs for the loss of two wickets at stumps on the final day, ending the match in a draw.
