http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashonaland-Eagles-c814 177 - Mid West Rhinos won by 7 runs
On Wednesday, November 30, 2011 Mid West Rhinos beat Mashonaland Eagles by seven runs in the ongoing Stanbic Bank 20 Series at Harare Sports Club.
With this win Rhinos have gained 10 points in the tournament and are now standing at third place in the points table.
While Eagles are now at the bottom without a point to their name as after playing three matches they are yet to register a win.
Eagles were hoping to secure their first win in the tournament by neutralizing their opponents in Wednesday’s game, however, their batting let them down as they lost the match only by a margin and had the lower-order batsmen performed well, the team would have registered a victory in the clash.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Eagles chose to field first on a bowling track as they wanted their bowlers to give Rhinos batsmen a tough time.
However, Rhinos openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Riki-Wessels-c2319 incinerated the little sting in the bowling department of the Eagles as the duo batted splendidly well on a pitch that was predicted to favour the bowlers.
The way the two batsmen batted, they certainly exhibited tremendous form which left the opposition flabbergasted.
The duo posted 111 runs together before Wessels lost his wicket on the penultimate delivery of the 14th over as the batsman found his way back to the pavilion after clobbering a stupendous knock of 51 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 then departed in the 16th over after smashing a resilient knock of 54 runs off 42 deliveries. At the time of this wicket, Rhinos had managed to post 114 runs on the board.
Later, number-three batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Ballance-c1465 also smacked an innings of 53 runs to help his side post 184 runs in 20 overs for the loss of only two wickets.
With a tough total ahead of them, Eagles needed a solid batting display from their players to overcome the required target.
After losing their first wicket for only 27 runs on the board, opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181 smashed belligerent knocks of 73 and 71 runs to bring their side closer to the required target.
However, after their demise Rhinos grabbed hold of the situation and halted the remaining batsmen from chasing the required target as Eagles ended their innings after posting 177 runs on the board.
Richard Muzhange from Rhinos was named as the Player of the Match.
