Mashonaland Eagles 195 v Mid West Rhinos 142 - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashonaland-Eagles-c814 won by 53 runs
Mashonaland Eagles beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mid-West-Rhinos-c816 by 53 runs in the ongoing Stanbic Bank 20 Series at Harare Sports Club, on Friday, December 02, 2011.
The match was extremely important for both sides as they needed to win in order to secure a place in the final of the ongoing tournament.
After winning the toss, Rhinos skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BRM-Taylor-c1200, chose to field first as he wanted his bowlers to restrict the opposition on a small total to grab an easy win.
However, Eagles openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Matsikenyeri-c2395 prevented the fielding side from dictating the game as they played phenomenally well against a decent bowling attack.
The two batsmen were wary of the bowling threat from their opponents, but kept their nerve and played handsomely to squeeze the sting out of the bowling attack they were up against.
The duo amassed 109 runs before their side suffered the loss of Doeschate’s wicket, who departed after playing an innings of 63 runs off 33 deliveries.
Number-three batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181, then came in the middle to form an alliance with Matsikenyeri to counter Rhinos bowling attack.
Rhinos, on the other hand, exhibited a colourless bowling which cost them dearly as they failed to halt the batting onslaught, unleashed by their rivals.
Trego lost his wicket on the penultimate delivery of the 16th over after smashing a knock of 21 runs. Later, in the 18th over, Matsikenyeri also fell after scoring 89 runs. At the time of his demise, the side had posted 184 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets.
At the end of their innings, Eagles managed to amass 195 runs on the board, giving Rhinos a tough tally to chase in 20 overs.
Rhinos needed to keep wickets in hand and score frequently in order to win the game; however, they lost their first wicket in the fourth over, when skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 fell on 24 runs when the team had managed to post only 35 runs on the board.
Apart from Riki Wessels' 42-run knock, none of the batsmen gave a match winning performance, resulting in their demise after posting 142 runs in 18.2 overs.
PD Trego was named as the Player for the Match for taking four wickets.
