Mountaineers 166 v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Southern-Rocks-c845 123 - Mountaineers won by 43 runs
In the ongoing Stanbic Bank 20 series, the Zimbabwean domestic side http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mountaineers-c818 beat rivals Southern Rocks by 43 runs on Wednesday, November 30, 2011at Harare Sports Club.
Mountaineers, who were already the top team in the tournament, secured first place after this victory as they lead the points table by 14 points.
Meanwhile, Southern Rocks landed at second place from the bottom after suffering this heavy defeat.
Earlier, before the match, Rocks were aiming to better their record in the domestic table by giving their opponents a run for their money; however, their plans were ruined by a splendid performance from Mountaineers.
After winning the toss, Rocks decided to field first as they wanted their bowlers to restrict the batting side from scoring a big total in the T20 game.
On the other hand, Mountaineers had enough talented batsmen in their squad to bat their way to domination against the fielding side.
Southern Rocks drew first blood in the fourth over by grabbing the wicket of Mountaineers opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/H-Masakadza-c1517, who found his way back to the pavilion after scoring a meagre knock of eight runs. At this point in time, the side had posted 22 runs on the board which was impressive as they piled these runs in only four overs.
The demise of the right-hand opener brought Kevin Kasuza in the middle as the 18-year-old youngster crafted a handsome partnership with opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Mustard-c2183. Both batsmen clobbered 60 runs together in the second-wicket partnership which later turned out to be the highest partnership from their side.
Then after playing a stupendous knock of 40 runs, Mustard fell in the 10th over when the team had amassed 82 runs.
Kasuza departed after scoring 27 runs and in the later part of the game http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kudzai-Sauramba-c1817 smacked an unbeaten knock of 36 runs to help the side post a tally of 166 runs on the board.
With a decent total to overcome, Rocks needed to bat their way to supremacy against a flamboyant bowling attack.
However, only middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Burger-c89654 showed fine touch of form as he clobbered a commendable innings of 62 runs while his team failed to stand against the rampant bowling from Mountaineers.
In the end, Rocks could muster only 123 runs by the end of their 20 overs as they lost the match.
Shingi Masakadza from Mountaineers was named as the Player of the Match for grabbing three wickets and scoring 13 runs.
