ICC World Cup 2011: Zimbabwe announce final squad
Zimbabwe Cricket announced their 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup 2011 starting next month in February 2011.
The mega event is being jointly co-hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
Sean Ervine will return to his national squad after a gap of seven years. The all rounder, who has been playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789, quit his English county championship cricket to resume his Zimbabwean career in the first week of January 2011.
The 28-year-old will revert to overseas status in order to play in his national colours. Ervine has played 42 One Day Internationals for his country. He left Zimbabwe in May 2004 during the national players’ dispute with ZC administrators. He struggled to break into the Western Australian side before moving to England in 2005.
He will join his younger brother, Craig Ervine in the squad on a three-year contract. His experience will help Zimbabwean brittle middle order as well as provide the squad with a third all round option.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Elton-Chigumbura-c55937, who was in the 2007 World Cup squad, will be leading the side that includes six batsmen, three specialist slow bowlers and three seamers.
He will be supported by Brendan Taylor, Prosper Utseya, Ed Rainsford, Chris Mpofu and Sean Williams.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tatenda-Taibu-c92882 will be keeping the wickets with Regis Chakabva and Charles Coventry as the back-up options. Taibu will most likely open the innings with Brendon Taylor.
Chakabva has played for Zimbabwe Under-19 team, Zimbabwe Provinces and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 A. The all round department is also completed by Greg Lamb along with Chigumbura and Sean Ervine.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tino-Mawoyo-c2683 are included in the non-travelling reserves.
The bowling attack will be headed by Utseya, Graeme Cremer and Ray Price. The seamers will be building around Mpofu, Ed Rainsford and Shingirai Masakadza.
Zimbabwe will be heading to Dubai to take part in a training camp that is scheduled to begin from 28 January, 2011. They will then be travelling to India to play two warm-up matches in order to familiarise themselves with the sub-continent conditions for the mega event.
The West Indian legendary cricketer, Brian Lara will be accompanying the touring party on the pre-World Cup trip as he has been signed up as a batting consultant for the national side.
